Summer Pool Games

Whether you’re celebrating the opening of your pool, having a birthday party, throwing a neighborhood shin-dig or organizing a family reunion, you’ll be needing some ideas to pass time and cool off as the summer heats up your backyard pool.

Regardless of age, everyone’s sure to enjoy a pool game. As a participant or a spectator, laughter is sure to ensue. Get ahead by gathering a few supplies in preparation for the arrival of fun.

Supply Kit:

  • Water balloons
  • Buckets
  • Foam balls
  • Beach balls
  • Ping-pong balls
  • Pool Noodles
  • Sponges
  • Old sweatshirts
  • Float rafts
  • Water Balloons
Historical all-time favorites are; the toss game, dunk tank, dodge ball, spoon race or relay. There is an element of fear, topped with fun, whenever water balloons are around. One thing is sure, people will get wet, laugh and have a grand time.

Bucket & Sponge

Use these items for a wring-the-sponge relay or use them to wash the cars in the driveway. How about a game of hot potato? No doubt these participants will cool off from the summer’s hot waves.

Sweatshirt

Is regular swim attire boring your fun? Why not add a sweatshirt over top and see how fast you can swim. Add an old pair of tennis shoes for an additional challenge. Have two teams relay across the pool to experience how cumbersome a wet sweatshirt can be. Don’t try this with inexperienced swimmers.

Float Raft

Who can be the fastest atop an inflated raft? Form teams or compete individually to see who has the fastest ship on water. Try racing on your back or even two by two for an added degree of difficulty. Be sure to have a photographer capture the final finish.

Cannon Ball

Who can make the biggest splash? Who has the best form? Who can jump the farthest? Obviously this game will make a splash. If you don’t want to get wet, step away from the pool area as the cannons fly.

Beach Balls, Ping-Pong Balls and Foam Balls

An age old favorite on beaches and in pools, the ball is a must for any party. Catching, tipping off, and dodging a ball in water can prove to be competitive and satisfying. Use the ping-pong balls to have a competition among teams; see who can gather the most balls in a minute.
